Who I offer counselling for
-
I can offer therapy to support you to explore whatever is going on in your life. I am happy to have a chat to see if I am the right counsellor for you at this time, as long as you are 18 or older.
I have offered counselling to people in their twenties and eighties, as well as many ages in between.
-
I have most experience working with LGBTQ+ folk who wish to meet a counsellor where those aspects of their identity will not be unnecessarily questioned or looked at, but can be spoken about respectfully and safely.
I have an understanding of many of the issues LGBTQ+ folks may face. I have worked with individuals around gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation. This is both on a personal level and navigating these aspects of identity in relationship with others (e.g. family, friends and colleagues) and other parts of their identity (e.g. faith).
-
A lot of my clients are neurodiverse or suspect they may be. You don't need a diagnosis to work with me, or use any labels if you don't feel comfortable with them.
I offer adaptions to sessions, which can include the presence of fidget toys, comforting objects or not maintaining eye contact.
I am open to discussing any ways of working which you may find useful but have previously not considered possible as it could have been seen as unusual. I will meet you with an open mind and do my best to cater for what you need.
-
I have a deep understanding of both the physical and mental health impacts of being disabled, especially in a world created by and for ‘able-bodied’ people.
Not all disabilities are visible and not everyone with a difference wishes to identify as disabled. I aim to create a safe and accesible therapy space for everyone.
I have worked with a range of people, including those who have cerebal palsy, visual impairments, DID and chronic illness.
Topics I offer counselling for
-
Anxiety including Covid-19 related worries that may be impacting your day to day life.
-
If your partner or loved one has come out as trans* I have experience working with the challenges this may present. There may be things you wish to explore away from your loved one to better support them.
*trans here encompasses being transgender in a binary sense (trans man, trans woman), non-binary, gender fluid, gender queer or something for which there is no definitive label that speaks to the person.
-
Body image issues can include a general unhappiness with how you look or feel in your body, body dysmorphia or gender dysphoria
-
If you are experiencing low mood and finding everyday life tasks difficult, counselling can be a place to explore this and look at changing behaviours and thought patterns, should you choose.
-
I offer counselling which is disability affirmative. Many clients find my understanding of the challenges faced through ableism and often inaccessible spaces helpful.
Counselling can be a space to speak about what is going on with your difference (not everyone identifies as disabled) or everything else but with the context of your lived expereince in mind.
I offer a limited number of consessions for those who need reduced fees to be able to access counselling.
-
Exploring gender identity can be an evokative and emotional journey. I support those who may be questioning their gender to explore what is going on for them.
This is done at your pace (as the client) and only uses labels or language you bring into the space.
This also could include exploring coming out to friends and family and what this evokes.
-
This can include the loss of loved ones (humans and pets), a change in circumstances where things significantly change or health related loss (e.g. loss of energy and ability due to long covid).
-
I offer counselling for a range of topics, including but not limited to those listed. If you are unsure if I work with what you have in mind, please contact me to discuss your requirements further.
-
This can be for both monogamous and ethically non-monogamous relationships.
-
Exploring sexual orientation and what it means to you. This also could include exploring coming out to friends and family and what this evokes.
-
Stress manifests for everyone differently but could be affecting your thoughts and physical body as they are closely linked.
We can work together to understand the cause(s), identifying thought and behavioural patterns. Witht this knowledge we can tailor stress reduction techniques that work for you in daily life to help it feel more manageable.
-
Counselling for workplace challenges can range from job dissatifaction or stress to finding interactions with colleagues challenging. If you feel angry, confused or afraid talking about it with someone impartial and external to your workplace can help.
